Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader - 28 February 2004

The following is a shameless plug.
This summer league is organized and sponsored by Dakka Dakka. Check out their great web site, and if you live in the Boston/New England Area, be sure to stop in! A great facility run by good people.

Here are just some of the armies that were in presence.

For this RT, I decided at the last minute to field a Death Skull army. I won't go into gorey details on the entire list, but here is a quick break down. Note that this was an 1850 point list, with a 150 sideboard (in my case, 5 warbikes).

10 looters with an autocannon and heavy bolter with nob with big shooter
6 looters with morter
22 slugga boyz with nob with powerclaw
24 gitz with slaver with squighound
9 tankbustaz with 3 rokkits and mek with kustom force field, super stikkbomb, and 3 oilers
17 ard boyz with nob with powerclaw
looted leman russ
battlewagon - zzap gun, twin rokkits
two buggies, one with twin rokkits, on with kustem mega blaster
trukkboyz, 10 with nob
warboss
3 killa kanz

I had a lot of fun, and ended up 0-1-2 for the day. Yup, two ties - one against Ragnar and his wicked Eldar, no less!

Ok - on to the battles.

Battle 1: This was a victory point mission, with the objectives adding point values. I honestly think I could have won this one, but I misunderstood how much time was left, and on turn four (I went second) I spread out to grab objectives, thinning my lines dangerously. No one to blame than myself! I had some really bad rolls in this game - I rolled a 1 five out of six times for my looted leman russ! Not to mention the 8 tankbuster rokkits that hit a falcon but just could never damage it!

Ragnar's Eldar deployed across the table from me. This mission was Personal Objectives; I wrote down random point valus, shuffled them up, and stuck them in the same places he did for kicks.
'Ere are da boyz, ready to rumble!
As we could deploy in an L fashion, the morter squad was in the trees, and the truckk boyz and buggiez were covered by the other loota squad.
Ragnar's forces use their high speed to move towards the objectives early.
Here comes trouble! An Avatar and a wrathlord.
We moved out, and my warboss couldn't help but head right for that Avatar. What else would any self-respecting warboss do?.
One Kan died from massed Eldar shooting.
His support was nicely arranged on the pyramid.
WAAAAGH! The warboss and 'ard boyz hit he Avatar/Wrathlord combo.
The Avatar falls to the warboss, but the wraithlord instant killed him. Ca la vie! here two cans try their luck against the farseer. The wraithlord died from the powerclaw wielding nob.
Elswhere, the larger looter squad abandonded their heavy weapons and charged into and eliminated these dire avengers.

Battle 2: Tom Field's amazingly painted Space Wolves made up my second challanger for the day. This mission was Ships in the Night, and we were supposed to try and get into each other's table quarter (diagonals) but we got tied up in a great scrum right in the middle - leaving nether of us the winner! This was a lot of fun - Tom is a great guy, and an amazing modeler.

Here is Tom's force in all of its glory. You have to see these in person to appreciate them.
Ork deployment
His long fangs had a rather good perch on this building - they smoked both the leman russ, and both buggies.
His "sneaky beakies" showed up right where I expected, and my bikes found themselves assaulted. He star assaulted them and my morter squad, resulting in 3 dead bikes, one dead looter, and 5 dead marines! The vet sarge ran for his dog house - the bikes let him go, and as he couldn't rally , pushed him along the table until they could down a speeder with their big shootaz, and than wiped him out in a new assault.
He had the nerve to assault my gretchin!
This scrum was going our way, until another 10 blood claws charged in, swamping Bob. He went down, but took four of them with him!

Battle 3 : This one was agains Joe Cipps Imperial Fists - the mission was Trickle Down, and he got all those rhinos and the land raider right off the get go, and to stop that I had gitz, tankbustaz, the lootaz, and the sluggaz. It wasn't pretty.

He chewed me up pretty bad - so bad that we presumed it was a total loss for my side - but later on, as I thought about it, it was probably a tie! Next time I will be sure to count things up, as we destroyed 2 rhinos, a tempest, a typhoon, one tac squad, and brought 4 other tac squads to below 50%. I lost 2 cans, both buggies, the battlewagon, the larger loota squad, the tankbustas, and my trukk - and the gitz were below 50% but still in the fight.

Here's his army - it is always a pleasure to play a nice looking force!
part of his first turn deployment!
and the otherside. That land raider just shot and shot and shot all game.
This is what was facing my bwagon by turn three. Yes, that's three predators.
my sluggaz moved forward through the ruins. That razorback was immobilzed, and weaponless - bob took it out on the last turn just for fun.
My trukkaz ran full speed across the table, and the truck got blown. They were able to get out, and assault and remove this squad.
