Flames of War

Disaster in the Desert

After Action Report

Our mission objectives were simple - The Axis forces need to hold two of the three objectives in order to win the game. Each Axis player had (see the scenario set up page)

HQ of 2 PZ IV F2
Platoon of 5 PZ IV F2
Platoon of 5 PZ III N
Platoon of 5 PZ III J Late

And one AT gun unit in ambush, which of course I took a pair of 88's.

Initial deployment. The gray taks were my III Ns
And my whole side. The objective that I'm defending is behind the center hill, with my Company Commander in the 8-Rad. I kampfgrupped my p-IVs, moving them around in all platoons.
In the center was this wadi (cardboard) and bridge. The troops there are Italian engineers under my command.
Awaiting the onslaught.
This was not the best place for my j lates, I should have had the p-IVs up there. I ended up moving them into place after a few turns.
The English attack!
And on the table to my right, two companies head towards the Axis lines.
My engineers took some casulties, but stuck it in. Two crusaders headed for the Wadi, but one bogged (the entire game) and blocked the wadi entrance.
The first Axis ambush popped up here on this table, and gave a bit of consternation to the Shermans.
I began shifting my forces slowly to the right to provide assistance to my colleague.

My engineers managed to fianlly blow hte bridge, and than moved up, and smoked the crusader in the wadi with a flamethrower! In the center, the 5 Britsh grants got nailed by an Axis air attack, destroying the platoon.
With the center blocked, the English moved around to my left.
But the far left was not in contest. The Allied assault here was blocked not only by a solid defence, but a counter assault as well!
To the right, the Axis were taking casulites, but they were holding on, and dishing it out. The Italian company came on as reserve, and showed up right in the rear flank of the British. Between a rock and a hard place...
Allied Aircraft pound my tanks, causing the only real casulites that I saw.

The game ended with our victory, My 88's did just about nothing, other than draw artillery fire away from other units, but German shooting ended up pounding the British. I guess it was payback for our first game!

With this victory, the Axis won the campaign, two games to one.
